The Harvest Assistant collects core samples of grass straw from fields and submits to the OSU Endophyte Lab in a timely manner. The Assistant also labels straw bales in the fields to ensure clear identification of material through the entire production process. This position also includes mapping inventory as it is unloaded into barns. The Assistant will drive a company-issued vehicle. This is a seasonal position from July through August and regular hours are Monday-Saturday 7 a.m.-7 p.m. with some flexibility.
Job Functions
- Based on daily dispatch instructions, drive between fields in the Willamette Valley to sample stacks of straw for Endophyte.
- Communicate with Field Dispatch and each assigned crew daily (based on dispatch list).
- Accurately mark the inventory on the fields before it gets stored in the barn using spray paint and plastic tags.
- Record all samples and be able to track individual lots.
- Promptly submit samples to the OSU Endophyte Lab.
- Assist with field operations as needed.
- Use maps to locate fields.
- Operate vehicle in a safe manner.
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Other Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license with impeccable driving record.
- Must be able to drive for prolonged periods of time.
- Due to the fast-paced nature of the harvest activity, reliability, flexibility, and an excellent work ethic are critical for this position.
- Employees in this role must be willing to commit to work through the end of the harvest season (possibly Mid-September).
- Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret maps and directions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with MS Excel
- MRP systems experience
